The action, the balance in the water and realistic color patterns all help in giving the angler the highest percentages of hook-ups. Once you fish with a Salmo Pop, you’ll quickly learn to love this little lure. The secret to success with the Salmo Pop is understanding the basic concepts between balance and action. On one hand, you need to fish this popper with the classic “pop” action. This of best done with the rod tip pointed up at the 11 o’clock position. With every pull you must let the line back to give it slack. If the line is not laying on the surface of the water, the lure will fail to “pop” properly. The line in the water will actually pull the front of the down and force it to make a very obvious “pop”. If you keep your line tight as you snap the rod tip, the lure will start pushing water and not “pop” nearly as much.

Another big advantage to fishing with your rod tip high is that it will force you to drop the rod tip and then set the hook. This delay will result in more successful hook-up; since you will be pulling back to set the hooks once the fish has the lure in its mouth and not as it is coming to the bait.Experience has shown us that using a small snap to attach the lure to your line will give the Salmo Pop more freedom to “pop”. The action of getting the front of the lure to drop downward with a snap of your rod tip is important to get that loud “pop”.
